Your vehicle’s electrical system boasts a slew of components from the controls that operate your windows and mirrors to those that start your engine and charge your phone. Troubleshooting issues with your vehicle’s electrical system can be difficult, especially if you’re not familiar with the complexities of today’s electrical and electronic systems.

electrical problems

Today's engine is a collection of advanced parts and systems that provide the driving force to get you down the road. Modern electronics and materials may have made repairing engines more complicated, but the basic engine layout has not really changed over the years. Proper care and feeding of your engine will have it purring for many years. Typical symptoms of engine problems are excessive smoke from tailpipe; excessive oil consumption; knocking or tapping sounds; low oil pressure; low compression; water mixing in oil; oil getting into the air cleaner and/or radiator.

Keeping your car on the road means performing regular maintenance at scheduled intervals. The most important regular maintenance is your vehicle’s oil change. Performed every 3,000, 4,000 or 5,000 miles, depending on oil type, oil changes keep your vehicle’s engine running efficiently and provide an opportunity to inspect your vehicle for any potential issues. An oil change at Ultimate Auto Safety always includes a multi-point vehicle inspection.

Synthetic vs. Conventional Oil Changes

While conventional oil provides an economical solution to your vehicle’s lubrication needs synthetic oil will always prove superior for a number of reasons. Synthetic oil provides a longer life and superior lubrication for all makes and models. Synthetic oil changes are even required for certain vehicles. While a synthetic oil change can cost as much as three times a conventional oil change, the benefits generally out-weigh the cost. With a conventional oil change you should be getting it changed at 3,000 mile intervals while with a synthetic you change it every 5,000 mile. Some synthetic brands will  give you protection for up to 8,000 miles or more. Synthetic oils reduce wear on your engine. Find out more about Synthetic vs. Conventional motor oils at HowStuffWorks.com.

Keeping your vehicle on the road requires performing regular, preventative maintenance. Aside from oil changes this includes coolant flushes, transmission services, belt changes, tune ups, filter changes and more.
